Biography
Say What? consisted of 5 members, and the music was a mix of pop, rock, and blues. The repertoire included original work and covers. The band was ambitious, and the bar was continuously raised. Partly due to this, the drummer was replaced by Ramon Deelen. The music style shifted more towards rock, and the repertoire of original songs was expanded. The second guitarist and keyboardist then left the band. Daniël van Someren was initially brought in as a vocalist but soon picked up the second electric guitar as well. The four-member formation changed their name to ‘Conquistador.’
Conquistador
Catchy songs were written, and after a few years, the band won the Gouda Music Prize in 1994. This led to the recording of their first album titled ‘Blotted Scrim,’ which was self-released. Many shows followed at festivals and concert halls. In 1995, Conquistador expanded with Martijn Verkaik as a singer, and new songs were worked on. This resulted in the 1996 demo ‘Tunnel of Unconsciousness.’ After a few years, Martijn left the band, but they decided to record a second album named ‘Far Away’ in 1999. Sander took on the vocals for this.
Flowdown
The repertoire consisted solely of original work, and in 2005, under ‘Flowdown,’ the first CD ‘Shadows of the Mind’ was self-released. One and a half years after the release, Roddy left the band.
In 2010, the second full-length CD ‘The Growing Burden’ was recorded and released in 2011. After many years of performing, the band decided to slow down a bit. Balancing work, family life, and touring proves to be quite challenging…
